APRIL 2009

Hello and welcome to
City Mazda's
April e-news.

The first half of the year is quickly drawing to a close, with the school holidays and Easter having already come and gone.

In this month’s edition we are thrilled to announce the arrival of the highly anticipated Mazda3 after months and months of waiting!  After now gracing our showroom floor we are truly impressed by this much unexpected little beauty.

We also take a look at the upgraded Mazda MX-5 after having arrived at our dealership last month and discuss the Government’s new proposed 30 per cent tax break for business owners.

We hope you enjoy this issue.  Safe and happy motoring!

THE NEW MAZDA3 HAS ARRIVED

After months and months of waiting the highly anticipated next generation Mazda3 has arrived at City Mazda!

We saw the new Mazda3 in the flesh for the first time at last month’s Melbourne International Motor Show and now we are lifting the covers at our dealership.

Housing its powerful 2.0-litre in-line four-cylinder 16 valve DOHC S-VT engine with your choice of manual or automatic transmission, the new Mazda3 is available in either sedan or hatch.

There are four model grades in the new Mazda3 including the Neo, Maxx, Maxx Sport and SP25.

Its packed full of features you just wouldn’t expect to find in a small car, like surprising Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and traction control, plus a startlingly handy steering wheel-operated multi-information display with functions including a trip computer.

Even satellite navigation and Bluetooth® connectivity come standard on many models.

Everything you unexpected, the next generation Mazda3 truly exceeds all standards, as one of Australia’s most popular cars.

Now even more popular the new Mazda3 is not just impressing the critics, but also the fans, having recently gained a fan page on popular social networking site Facebook with over 10,000 fans.

30% TAX BREAK

From now until June 30th businesses will be eligible to apply for the Federal Government’s Small Business and General Business Tax Break.

Businesses will be able to claim an additional 30 per cent tax deduction for eligible assets from now until the end of the financial year with concessions for small businesses.

The temporary business tax break will help Australian businesses boost investment, bolster economic activity, and support Australian jobs during the difficult times that we are facing.

In lieu of this, small businesses will be eligible to claim an additional 30 per cent tax deduction for eligible assets costing $1,000 or more acquired from 13th December 2008 to 30th June 2009, and installed by 30th June 2010.

A 10 per cent tax deduction will apply for eligible assets acquired from 1st July to 31st December 2009 and installed before 31st December 2010.

In order for a small business to benefit from this tax break they must have a turnover of $2 million or less a year.

Other businesses can receive the same deductions for eligible assets greater than $10,000.

The tax bonus will apply to tangible assets with depreciating value used in everyday business activities, including fleet vehicles.

Contact us for more information on how your business can best advantage from the Small Business and General Business Tax Break.

The proposed Small Business and General Business Tax Break is yet to pass through Federal Parliament and is therefore not law and subject to change.  Contact your tax advisor to see if you’re eligible.

NEW SKIN, MORE GOOSEBUMPS

Having arrived at our dealership last month was the ever impressive Mazda MX-5 after having received an exciting new facelift.

With a host of cosmetic, mechanical and ergonomic upgrades the new MX-5 Roadster is even more fun to drive attracting more and more people with its unique and pure roadster quality.

The updated Mazda MX-5 is now offered in soft-top and folding hard-top configurations.

Featuring the powerful 2.0-litre in-line four-cylinder 16 valve DOHC S-VT, using rear-wheel drive through a six-speed manual or optional six-speed Activematic transmission with paddle shifters, the MX-5 offers a drive like no other.

“The feisty little Mazda MX-5 Roadster is the Zoom-Zoom heart and soul of Mazda,” said Mazda Australia Managing Director Doug Dickson.

“It embodies our Stylish, Insightful and Spirited brand values more than any other car we make. And that means its significance to Mazda stretches well beyond its performance on a sales chart.

“No other two-seat roadster can match the MX-5 for driving fun, excitement and value.”

KEEPING BUSY DURING THE COLDER MONTHS
The colder months are almost upon us, so it’s time to pack away the bathers and beach towels, and replace them with the umbrellas and gumboots.

No longer are you in the mood to pack the car and hit the open road basking in the bright sunlight – instead you just want to curl up under a blanket in front of an open fire.

But just because the weather gets a little colder, doesn’t mean you can’t take to the road for some enjoyment in the great outdoors.

Here are some of our top tips of drives to take during the Autumn/Winter time:

  • Head up to Bright in Victoria’s High Country at the foot of Mount Buffalo to enjoy the annual Bright Autumn Festival where you can enjoy the best of autumn colours and produce.

  • Visit Philip Island and take in the sights of the wonderful nature and wildlife.  Watch the penguin parade at sunset and embrace the winter time with your woollies, blankets and warm soup, as nature takes place before your eyes.  There’s also the seals, koalas, or hit the waves at Smiths Beach.

  • Go back in time with a visit to Ballarat’s Goldfields and Sovereign Hill.  One of the best times to take in Ballarat, you can not only learn a little about Australia’s gold rush history, but also see some of the beautiful gardens of Ballarat during their most spectacular time of the year.
Enjoy the best of the autumn colours by venturing outdoors as the colder weather kicks in, but all from the heated interior of your car.

LEAN LASAGNE

Serving size: Serves 4
Cooking time: More than 1 hour

A mouth-watering dish of lean lasagne.

Ingredients

1 onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed
250g lean beef mince
3/4 cup (185ml) red wine
1 cup (250ml) beef stock
400g can diced tomatoes
2 x 125g cans kidney beans, drained, rinsed
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano
6 sheets instant lasagne
1/2 cup (50g) grated mozzarella
1/3 cup (25g) grated parmesan

Topping
300ml low-fat yoghurt
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/2 cup (100g) low-fat ricotta
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Method

1. Preheat oven to 190C or 170C fan.  Lightly spray a saucepan with cooking oil spray and heat on medium.  Cook onion and garlic, stirring for 5 minutes until soft.  Add beef and cook for 3 minutes until browned, stirring to break up any lumps.  Stir in red wine, stock, tomato, beans, tomato paste and oregano and simmer for 30 minutes.  Season to taste.

2. Meanwhile, make topping by combining all ingredients in a bowl.

3. Lightly spray a shallow dish with cooking oil spray.  Line base with 2 lasagne sheets.  Spoon over half of meat sauce and top with a third of combined mozzarella and parmesan.  Repeat layers finishing with lasagne sheets.  Pour topping over and sprinkle with remaining cheese.  Bake for 50-60 minutes, until bubbling and golden.

Serve hot or warm.
