Businesses will be able to claim an additional 30 per cent tax deduction for eligible assets from now until the end of the financial year with concessions for small businesses. The temporary business tax break will help Australian businesses boost investment, bolster economic activity, and support Australian jobs during the difficult times that we are facing. In lieu of this, small businesses will be eligible to claim an additional 30 per cent tax deduction for eligible assets costing $1,000 or more acquired from 13th December 2008 to 30th June 2009, and installed by 30th June 2010. A 10 per cent tax deduction will apply for eligible assets acquired from 1st July to 31st December 2009 and installed before 31st December 2010.

In order for a small business to benefit from this tax break they must have a turnover of $2 million or less a year.

Other businesses can receive the same deductions for eligible assets greater than $10,000.

The tax bonus will apply to tangible assets with depreciating value used in everyday business activities, including fleet vehicles.
